Daytona Update
A.J. Foyt IV appeared to be settling
in for a long afternoon of racing in the Hershey's Kissables 300 in
his first start ever at Daytona International Speedway last Saturday
afternoon. Unfortunately his day was cut short when he became a
victim of a multi-car crash.
Foyt, who started 36th, had
been biding his time in the early going. The team's quick pitstop
during a caution period on lap 31gained Foyt six positions. With the
car's handling improved, he passed a few more cars and moved into
the top 20 by lap 38.
The race was shaping up to be his best
yet when the crash occurred in the front of the field. Trying to
slip past the melee on the inside, Foyt IV's No. 38 Great Clips
Dodge was kissed ever so lightly by Carl Edwards' car. The buss was
enough to shoot the 38 car into the outside wall where it ricocheted
off and slid back across the track, ending up in pitlane. The car
was heavily damaged but Foyt IV escaped without injury.
"Just a case of being in the wrong
place at the wrong time,"said the young Texan who placed 42nd.
"We'll just look forward to going to California and
having a good race out there."
Foyt IV will make his sixth start in
the NASCAR Busch Series at California Speedway, a
track where he's run three times in an Indy car.
"I have raced there a couple of times
in the Indy cars but being in a stock car there will be a lot
different,"said Foyt. "Hopefully after getting in some practice laps
I'll be able to adjust pretty quickly.”
The Stater Bros.300 will be broadcast
Saturday evening at 6 pm eastern on FX.
