Larry Foyt Tests Winston Cup Car

Foyt took his first laps in a NASCAR Winston Cup car Monday at Caraway
Speedway, a .455-mile banked oval in Asheboro, North Carolina.
The one-day test was primarily a shakedown run to see how the
25-year-old Busch Series driver would adapt to the cars in NASCAR's
premier series. By all accounts, the test went very well. Foyt logged
over 200 laps and ran competitive times compared to Stacy Compton, who
tested the Conseco Pontiac at the track early in the year.
"There wasn't a real big difference between the Cup car and my Harrah's
Busch car," Foyt said. "But I did like having the extra horsepower. The
Cup car also felt more drivable, I could hustle it around more. There
were a couple of times I got it sideways and if that had been my Busch
car, I would have spun, but with the extra power, I could drive out of
it. It was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed driving it."
Plans for the 2003 season won't be finalized until later this month. The
Foyt Racing team expects to make an announcement in mid-January.
