Notes:
Although Atlanta Motor Speedway suffered through financial
difficulties throughout the 1960s and '70s, it still captured
the attention of local figures and celebrities. While running
for governor of Georgia, Jimmy Carter - an avid race fan and
former ticket vendor at the track in the 60s - promised a
barbecue dinner at the governor's mansion if he won. He kept
that promise, then improved on it by inviting the racing
community to another cookout in 1978 - this time at the White
House.
After missing the last two weeks, Larry Foyt will be behind
the wheel of Harrah's Dodge at Atlanta. Foyt sat out the last
two weeks because of injuries sustained in an accident at
Talladega Superspeedway.
The best finish for A.J. Foyt Racing at Atlanta is 31st (twice
in 2002) and the best starting position was 11th in the fall
of 2000.
Larry Foyt has competed twice at Atlanta in the NASCAR Busch
Series with a best finish of 27th in the fall of 2002.
Larry Foyt on Atlanta Motor Speedway
"Atlanta is a great place to race at because it's fast and
offers many different racing grooves. Sometimes you'll see
cars take three different lines in the turns!
"We had engine problems when we raced here in March and we
only got to finish about 40 laps. My injuries have healed
pretty well and I'm anxious to strap back into the Harrah's
Dodge."
