LATE MULTI-CAR WRECK ENDS DAY FOR FOYT
FONTANA,
Calif. - Late in the Auto Club 500 NASCAR Winston Cup Series race at
California Speedway, Larry Foyt, driver of the No. 14 Harrah's
Dodge, was involved in a multi-car accident that ended the team's
day with a 38th-place finish. Kurt Busch took the checkered flag,
marking his second win of the season.
"It's just so frustrating to fall out of the race with only 24 laps
to go," said Foyt. "I was gaining on (Jimmy) Spencer when the wreck
happened right in front of us. We really wanted to challenge Spencer
but didn't have the chance."
Despite the ending, the No. 14 Harrah's team did notice improvements
in the car after a series of adjustments were made throughout the
day's pit stops.
"It's the best motor we've had all year," said Foyt. "This motor is
good. The car is just a little tight in the corners."
The team still seeks improvement for the upcoming race at Richmond
International Raceway. With a successful test there recently, the
team should pose a threat in the Pontiac Excitement 400.
"We did really well testing in Richmond," said Foyt. "If the No. 14
Harrah's Dodge can do as well during the race as we did in testing,
we should have a strong finish."
The NASCAR Winston Cup Series heads to Richmond International
Raceway next weekend for the Pontiac Excitement 400. Race coverage
will be seen on FOX and MRN radio, with the pre-race show beginning
at 7:00 p.m. EST.

California Speedway is featured in several movies including
Charlie's Angels.
• California Speedway is the only track on the Winston Cup circuit
that has its own train station, which is a great way to avoid
traffic and congestion.
Larry Foyt on California:
"California is a lot like Michigan - fast, extremely wide and
smooth. Like a lot of the tracks we go to, downforce plays a crucial
role. It's also important to get the setup of the car nailed down
before the race because there are not a lot of cautions since there
is so much room to race."
• Larry has competed twice at California Speedway in the NASCAR
Busch Series. His best finish is 21st in 2001.
• Larry attended a Meals On Wheels function on Tuesday in San Diego
and also attended Harrah's Fan Fest at the Rincon casino on
Thursday.
