FOYT MANEUVERS THE MONSTER MILE TO FINISH 28TH
Larry
Foyt maneuvered his No. 14 Harrah's Dodge through numerous
wrecks to finish 28th in Sunday's MBNA Armed Forces Family 400
at the Monster Mile.
The 28th-place finish at Dover International Speedway marks
Foyt's Winston Cup career-high finish. Prior to this race, his
career-high finish was 30th in the Samsung/RadioShack 500 at
Texas Motor Speedway.
"We've made a lot of improvements since Texas and I think that
is evident in our performance the past two weekends," said
Foyt. "We still have a long way to go, but we're making steps
in the right direction."
The Harrah's Dodge avoided the 'Monster mash' throughout the
race, despite the tight conditions of the car. While most are
caught in a multi-car wreck, Foyt managed to keep his Dodge
clean and clear for the duration of the race.
"Dover is known for taking out a lot of cars at once," said
Foyt. "Luckily, we managed to stay out of those pile ups.
"Our car was tight most of the day but our team did a good job
in the pits to improve that. The No. 14 Harrah's Dodge was
running well at the end which proves how much work the team
put into it this weekend.
"We had a few difficulties during practice but came back to
run a clean race," said Foyt. "We need to establish some
consistency each week. Even though we are a young team, I
think we can really challenge most of these teams."
The No. 14 Harrah's team will visit Pocono Raceway next
weekend for the Pocono 500. FOX and MRN will broadcast the
race beginning at 12:30 p.m. EDT.

- The best performance at DDIS for A.J. Foyt Racing was in the
fall of 2000 with driver Rick Mast. They qualified second and
finished 10th.
- In 1985, Dover Downs had just 22,000 seats. Over the years
they have expanded and their current capacity is 140,000.
Larry Foyt on Dover Downs:
"Dover is a fun track to race on. The high banking makes it
really fast, almost like a bigger Bristol. Needless to say,
there are a lot of wrecks and with the high speeds you have to
be on your game in order to miss the accidents.
"On Friday I'm going to visit some of our troops at the Dover
Air Force Base. I'm looking forward to sharing stories with
them and showing my thanks for the sacrifices they have made." |
