Race Report
Larry
Foyt
drove the No. 14 Dodge
to a 32nd
place finish in the
Subway 400 Sunday
afternoon at North
Carolina Speedway in
Rockingham, N.C.
Defending NASCAR
Nextel champion Matt
Kenseth won the
event.
Foyt is in 32nd
place in the series
point standings after
two races.
"We struggled with the
car's handling all
weekend," said Foyt
who turned 27 on race
day. "It was a long
day for me and the
crew but we brought
the car home in one
piece."
The team will use this
off-weekend (Feb.
28-29) to prepare for
the
UAW-DaimlerChrysler
400 race at Las Vegas
Motor Speedway on
March 7th.

SpeedwayDaytona 500 Race
Recap:
Larry Foyt competed in
his first Daytona 500 to
finish 28th.
Foyt started 41st
and had raced his way up
to 23rd
before problems with a
spark plug wire caused
him to retreat to the
garage area for repairs.
"It's a shame that they
couldn't determine the
cause of the engine's
misfiring on pit road
because it wouldn't have
cost us so much time,"
Foyt said. "But
everything considered,
I am really proud of my
crew and the hard work
they did to get us into
the Daytona 500, and to
keep us running ‘til the
finish."
Presidential Meet &
Greet:
Foyt shook hands with
President George W. Bush
along with the other
drivers prior to the
start of the Daytona
500. All of the drivers
were instructed to say
their name and home
town, and in Larry's
case, the President
responded, "A fellow
Texan, I like that."
Happy Birthday!
Larry Foyt
turns 27 on race day and
he hopes he has more to
celebrate than getting
another year older.
The Rock:
Larry made his
NASCAR Nextel Cup Series
debut at North Carolina
Motor Speedway last
year. He started 41st
and finished 36th,
despite losing out on
Saturday practice due to
rain. In the fall race,
Foyt started 42nd
and finished 28th.
"The rock is a great
place to race, simply
because there is a lot
of racing room," says
Foyt. "Depending on the
handling of your car,
you can run high, low,
or in the middle. Tire
wear is the key, so the
driver who takes care of
his tires, and has a
well balanced race car
should win the race."
IRL
IndyCar Season Opener:
The week
after Rockingham, Foyt
will travel south to
watch A.J. Foyt IV start
his season in the Indy
Racing League IndyCar
Series at
Homestead-Miami Speedway
Feb. 29. During a recent
winter vacation in
Spain, the two drivers
compared their
respective rookie
seasons in auto racing's
top level series; each
is hoping for a better
season in 2004.
