I was excited to be returning to the Atlanta Motor
Speedway. It is
one of the only tracks on the NASCAR circuit that I have raced
on before. Unfortunately
I didn't race there in a stock car, but actually in a F2000.
The race also doesn't hold a fond memory, as I was
involved in a huge multi-car crash that sent me flipping down
the front straightaway. Did I actually say I was excited to
return to Atlanta? I
was excited, because I felt we had a good chance to run well
there.
After practice, I was a bit upset with the times we had
been running. We qualified 32nd, which left me and
"Wolfie" (Jon Wolfe, my crew chief) scratching our heads.
When the race began, we had a bit more excitement than
we had bargained for on lap one. I was braking hard going into
turn one and lost control of the car.
Luckily, I
saved it from hitting the wall, and the other drivers did a
great job to avoid me. We
regained our composure, and began racing again, trying to head
for the front. The car simply was not performing the way we
had hoped, and I was doing my best to keep up.
We ran all day and finished 22nd.
I'm certainly not thrilled, but we did finish, which
is a big goal for the Harrah's team this year.
Each race the team is learning new things that will
help us improve, and I'm very excited about the potential
this team has shown.
Talk to you after Darlington!
Thanks for you support,
Larry

Foyt
returns to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the third time in his
young career. In 1999, Foyt drove an open-wheel Formula 2000
car and sustained minor injuries after a fiery, violent
multi-car crash on the front straightaway. The crash was
profiled on a Real TV segment in February. "It wasn't my
fault so I don't really think about those accidents,"
said Foyt. "I was just very lucky that I didn't get
hurt."
Last
November, Foyt was one of the fastest in ARCA practice but
qualifying was rained out. With the field set according to
points, Foyt was left out because he had only one ARCA start.
Foyt's car was then changed over to Winston Cup specs and he
ran in that division's practice.
Foyt
tested his Harrah's Monte Carlo at AMS Feb. 20. "I'm
really excited about getting back to Atlanta because I
actually have some laps there. It's a fast, smooth race track
and pretty straightforward."
Immediately
following his race Saturday, Foyt will borrow the family jet,
a Hawker 600, to fly to Mobile, Alabama where he is a
groomsman in a close friend's wedding that night. From
Alabama, he flies to Bristol, Tenn. to test Monday.
Foyt
is currently 21st in the NASCAR Busch Series
standings.
