Notes & Quotes: NASCAR Busch Series South Carolina 200
On Darlington: "We're going to approach Darlington the
same way we did Bristol," said Larry Foyt. "We want to go back
and do better than we did before. At the last race we were
decent in practice and then had trouble in qualifying. In the
race, I got wrecked on the first lap. The crew repaired the car
somewhat but we just rode around, hoping to finish ahead of
others who had problems. It was a long day. So I'm pretty sure
that Darlington the second time around will turn out better for
the Harrah's team."
On Bristol: "Even though our qualifying and finish wasn't
very good, we came out of there with a good taste in our mouths.
We were a lot better than we were our first race at Bristol when
we had to take a provisional. In fact this time we were pretty
darn sporty in the Harrah's Chevy. That was part of my problem.
I was anxious to get to the front and I got into the back of a
car and I had to lift which let the guy behind me get a run. But
he tried to make it three abreast and there was no room so we
all tangled. But after Jon Wolfe and the guys fixed my car, we
were running lap times comparable to the leaders. This Harrah's
team has worked really hard to improve the program and it's
starting to show."
Larry Foyt will accept the National Motorsports Press
Association's Hall of Fame award for his father A.J. Foyt who is
being inducted Saturday night at the Darlington Country Club.
Foyt will be in Joliet, Ill. working with his Harrah's Indy car
team in their first-ever appearance at the 1.5-mile Chicagoland
Speedway. Foyt is both team owner and engineer for Eliseo
Salazar in the No. 14 and Donnie Beechler in the No. 11.
A.J. said, "It is a great honor to be included in the same
company of men like Bill France Jr., Dale Earnhardt and Glen
Wood. I respect all of them highly. I'm just sorry that the
schedule works out to where I can't be there to accept the award
and thank the NMPA myself that night. But I do know that Larry
will do a good job on my behalf."
Points
standing: Foyt is 22nd in the points; he has earned $312,542
to date.
