DOVER,
Del. (June 2) – Larry Foyt felt the bite of the Monster
Mile early in the MBNA Platinum 200 NASCAR Busch series race
at Dover Downs.
Driving his No. 14 Harrah's Casino Chevrolet, Foyt was just
settling into the 200-lap race when a chain reaction accident
was triggered by Tim Fedewa's spin on the frontstretch.
"All I saw was smoke up ahead of me," said Foyt. "I had
put my hand up to indicate I was slowing down and I got hit
from behind. It's a shame. Fedewa hit the wall coming off
turn four and everyone checked up. The 36 car got spun and the
37 car hit him. I was slowing down to follow (Kevin) Lepage
through but then I got hit by Steve Park which sent me
spinning into the wall. It damaged the front and rear clip.
It's a tough deal – we just can't get any breaks
lately."
The race, which had been halted for over two hours due to
rain, had only 10 laps in the books when the multi-car
accident occurred. Foyt finished 41st after starting 27th. His
grid position was based on his owner's points when
qualifying was rained out on Friday.

Jimmy Spencer won the race,
taking advantage of the late race contact made when Mike
Skinner tagged race leader Bobby Hamilton Jr. causing Junior
to spin out. Spencer was followed by Matt Kenseth, Kevin
Harvick, Skinner and Park, all of whom are Winston Cup
regulars.
Foyt is testing this week at Kentucky Speedway in preparation
for the Outback Steakhouse 300 on June 16th.
Notes & Quotes:
On
Dover Downs International Speedway: "Well Dover is
another brand new track for me. I hear that it's like
Bristol only faster. Last year in the ASA, I did pretty well
on the fast, high-banked tracks so I'm hoping that Dover
will go well for us."
Foyt qualified fifth at
Salem (Ind.) Speedway and won the pole at Winchester (Ind.)
Speedway in the American Speed Association series last year.
Both tracks are fast, high-banked, half-mile ovals.
On Lowe's Motor
Speedway:
"We had a good car but another car tagged me in the right
rear which resulted in some body damage. I had to pit to get
it fixed because it would have rubbed on the tire. We stayed
on the lead lap but I had terrible track position. Eventually
I got lapped and right after that, the yellow came out and I
was never able to get my lap back. We still got the car
working pretty good because in the middle of the race we were
running lap times that were the same as the cars running in
the top 15. It was disappointing." In the
Carquest Auto Parts 300, Foyt started 27th and
finished 28th.
Testing Schedule:
Foyt's
Harrah's Racing team plans to test its Monte Carlo at
Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Ky. next week and at Watkins Glen
International road course in Watkins Glen, N.Y. the following
week. That test marks Foyt's first time on a road course in
a stock car. This past week he tested at Greenville Pickens
Speedway in North Carolina. "We learned some things about
the Goodyear tires that should help us the rest of the
season," said Foyt.
Points:
Foyt is currently 25th in the standings; he has earned
$175,482 to date.
