Notes & Quotes: NASCAR Busch Series Autolite/MBNA.com 200
Returning to race at Dover: "This weekend will feel very
different in many respects," said Foyt, "but I think the return to
racing will help both the fans and the participants deal with the
recent tragedies. What is heartening in the aftermath of these
events is the way everyone has pulled together to help in any way
that they can. That's what America is all about."
Foyt sat out the race at Richmond due to groin injuries
incurred at Darlington the week before. "I am feeling pretty good
and I'm eager to get back in my race car," said Foyt. "We have
improved our program since our last time at Dover, so I'm encouraged
about our chances this weekend. Of course in June, we didn't get
much of a chance to race since we got wrecked just 10 laps into the
race." In that event, Foyt slowed for Tim Fedewa's spin but was hit
from behind by Steve Park, sending Foyt hard into the inside wall.
The damage was too great to continue. He placed 41st.
The American flag will fly on all of the Foyt Racing machines
in honor of the victims and the heroes who tried to rescue those
victims struck by the tragic events of September 11th in New York
City, Washington, D.C. and Shanksville, Pa.
At Richmond, Mark Green replaced Foyt in the No. 14 Harrah's
Chevy. Although Foyt had qualified 32nd, Green had to drop back to
42nd at the start due to the driver change. Green had gotten as high
as 23rd before engine problems sidelined him early. He was credited
with 36th. Currently Green is working as a coach to Foyt on race
weekends.
Points
standing: Foyt is 24rd in the points; he has earned $322,827 to
date.
