Larry Miami race wrap-up...
Larry Foyt started 31st and finished 24th in the final NASCAR Busch
Series race of the year at Homestead-Miami Speedway November 10th.
"We were better on the shorter runs which was just the opposite of
what we'd been most of the season," said Foyt. "I could pass cars on
fresh tires but then the handling would go away. The car wasn't
horrible but it wasn't great either. We gambled on a couple yellows
and it didn't work to our advantage so we lost a couple laps. Overall
it was a pretty uneventful race."
Foyt finished the season 22nd in the driver's standings and 27th in
the owner's standings. His best start was fifth at Michigan Speedway
in August and his best finish was 12th at Talladega Superspeedway in
April.
Foyt will continue to drive his No. 14 Harrah's Chevrolet Monte Carlo
in the NASCAR Busch Series next year.
Notes & Quotes:
NASCAR Busch Series Homestead/GNC Live well 300
On Homestead/Miami: "We're taking the car that we built in our
shop – it's the first car that we've built this year. We tested it at
Homestead last month and were really pleased with the way it ran. I
believe this race is our best chance of the year to get a strong
finish. My team is really starting to gel and things are coming
together for me as a driver. I know Homestead is a tough track to
drive because you have to hit your marks every lap. It's easy to
under-drive it or over-drive it. The track has such long corners that
you have to sustain the car under turning load for a long time while
getting back on the throttle as quickly as possible. It's challenging
but I enjoy challenges."
Treasure Hunt! When the NASCAR Busch Series race starts with 43
drivers vying for the top prize this Saturday in Miami, 30 contestants
will start looking for the $1 million top prize in the Harrah's
Treasure Hunt in the Las Vegas desert. The contestants are winners
from a national promotion that took place at all of the Harrah's
properties. One lucky contestant will pick the right treasure map that
leads to the $1 million prize while the others' maps will lead them on
a wild goose chase in the desert. Larry's race car features the
Treasure Hunt logo on the hood.
On the past race at Rockingham: Larry Foyt qualified 17th but
finished 29th in the Sam's Club 200 NASCAR Busch Series race at North
Carolina Speedway. "There were some changes made to the car to adjust
for track conditions in the heat of the day that just didn't work. The
car was extremely loose, so much so I had to pit early under green to
change it. The car was so much better after that change I was able to
get a lap back on the track by passing the leader. But then the
yellows didn't work to our advantage and we got caught out and lost a
couple laps. Overall, the car ran decent but we just didn't get the
breaks we needed to make up for the problem we had early in the race." |
