On
Milwaukee: "We
have struggled on the mile flat tracks this year but we did test
locally at Greenville-Pickens Speedway which we hope will help us
with the set-up for Milwaukee," said Foyt. This month Foyt returns
to two tracks – Milwaukee and Gateway in St. Louis -- that he
competed on in the American Speed Association Series last year. In
fact, he logged his best finishes of the year there. He placed 6th
at Milwaukee and was 5th at Gateway. "I think my best
finishes came there because those tracks were bigger and I did
better on the bigger tracks. I didn't have any experience on the
short tracks," said Foyt
Testing
at Watkins Glen: "I
am really glad we tested there," said Foyt. "It surprised me how
much I learned on driving my Harrah's Chevrolet on a road
course. My stock car is about three times the weight of my
F-2000 car. It requires a whole different skill set to be smooth and
fast in car that weighs 3,300 lbs. We spent most of the test
working on me rather than the car set-up. Now that I have a pretty
good idea of what to expect, we can work on the car set-up when we
go back to race."
On Kentucky Speedway: Starting 22nd
and finishing 19th, Foyt posted his best
start and finish in his No. 14 Harrah's Chevrolet since
the Talladega Superspeedway race in April when he started 17th
and finished 12th. "I am just frustrated because
we had such a good car at Kentucky," said Foyt afterwards.
"Jon [Wolfe, crew chief] and the guys really got the car
working good but we had a problem in the motor. It just wouldn't run
on the low end, which really hurt us coming off the corners. This
series is so equal that you can't afford to give up anything and we
were hurting a little on horsepower."
Points standing: Foyt
is 25th in the points; he has earned $202,647 to date.
