Notes & Quotes:
On
Nashville: "I
haven't seen the track but I did hear some things about it. Because it is
a track new to NASCAR, they are allowing us some extra practice time on
Thursday. I understand that will also be the case in Kentucky, Joliet and
Kansas City. As for going to new tracks, I have to get used to it because
there will be some other tracks that I won't see until I get there for the
race." As examples, Foyt cited tracks at: Fontana, Calif., Nazareth, Pa.,
and Brooklyn, Mich. Foyt has seen Indy car races at Loudon, N.H. and Dover,
Del. but doesn't have plans to test there at this time.
At
Ft.Worth, Texas, Larry
started 26th and finished 22nd, his best finish since
Atlanta. "It wasn't as good as I hoped to do because we fought the same
problem with the car's handling all day. There was quite a bit of action
out there, but we did manage to survive."
Crew
chief Jon Wolfe
has planned tentatively to test the Harrah's Monte Carlo at Richmond
April 23-24 and definitely at Lowe's Motor Speedway May 7-8. The team
wasn't able to test at Nashville because the track was closed to make
repairs to the surface that rose out of the tire testing there. How did he
set up his car? "I called some people who did do some Goodyear tire
testing there. They said the track is similar to Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
We know the track is 1.3 miles long, basically flat with just 11 degrees
banking and it's concrete which throws a little twist in there. But
we'll have an open practice session Thursday afternoon so we'll get a
chance to see if our set-up and gearing is on target."
