On Pike's Peak International Raceway: Larry Foyt's
first experience at this track was in a Formula 2000 car, but
his fastest experience was testing his father A.J.'s Indy car,
which he did in 1999 at speeds near 172 mph. Foyt was the
second fastest of the Indy Racing League drivers who were
testing there that day. That was when Foyt thought his destiny
was Indy car racing but in 2000, he began racing in the
American Speed Association stock car series.
"I think PPIR will
provide competitive racing. The track is pretty wide coming
off turn four so there should be some good side by side
racing," said Foyt, who will be making his 21st start in
the Busch Series.
On Gateway International Speedway: Foyt started 29th
and finished 32nd. He lost time early in the race because of a
wheel problem, which the team was able to correct on their
first pitstop. Unfortunately, Foyt had lost so much time in
the interim, he had lost track position and was fighting to
stay on the lead lap. He got loose in turn two, brushed the
wall and then got hit from behind by Geoff Bodine. The impact
sent him into the wall hard. He sustained too much damage to
continue racing
Points
standing: Foyt is 22nd in the driver's points; he has
earned $257,567.
