Viva Las Vegas! I was
extremely excited about the race in Las Vegas.
Not only we were racing in our sponsor's back yard, but the
entire racing team was able to stay at the awesome Harrah's Casino
and Hotel located in the heart of the Las Vegas strip. I really
enjoyed meeting many of the employees and associates at Harrah's. As
well, the team did an autograph session in the Carnival Court, where I
met many race fans and fans of Harrah's.
I also like the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which is a 1.5 mile,
relatively flat, D-shaped oval.
Qualifying went well, as we locked up the 19th
position. Unfortunately,
trouble struck on race morning. While warming up the engine, the
engine tuner heard a sound that wasn't right.
The team immediately had to scramble and put our back up engine
in the race car. This meant we would have to relinquish our 19th
starting position, and start dead last.
(43rd)
The car still performed decent in the race.
We had moved up to the 17th position, but with ten
laps remaining the car pushed high and contacted the outside wall. I was unable to finish, and we were credited with 31st
position.
It was still great racing in front of all our friends at
Harrah's. Next stop for
the Harrah's team is Atlanta. Talk
to you after the race.
Thanks,
Larry
Foyt qualified 20th and finished 24th in
his first ever race at North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham. "We
went in there knowing it would be a tough race," said the
24-year-old rookie driver-owner. "Rockingham is a track where the
veterans really benefit from their experience. They understand tire
management, which is really important here. I started out with a
"push" and I heated up the right front tire in the beginning
just trying to keep up. I used up the tires and started going
backwards. It was a long green flag segment so we couldn't adjust the
car. The more frustrated I became, the harder I drove and the worse it
got. Once we were able to pit and make adjustments, the car got
better. I think we'll be in a lot better shape when we come back in
the fall."
