Larry Foyt has taken on a new role for the 2007 racing
season: Team Director of A.J. Foyt Enterprises where he will report directly to
his father.
Foyt is handling the day-to-day operations of the Indy car team and is working
closely with his team’s general manager Jack Starne and team manager Craig
Baranouski.
“This is a big year for my dad and his race team and I’m proud to have an active
role in it,” said Foyt who turns 30 Feb. 22. “Celebrating A.J.’s 50th
anniversary in Indy car racing is pretty special. Add to it that he’s won races
as a driver or an owner in each of the past five decades and it’s pretty
amazing. And he’s not finished!”
“We have a strong team and we’ve made some additions over the winter to increase
the experience level in some key areas, we’re looking forward to having a really
good year.”
Foyt’s main focus will be the IRL IndyCar Series but he will also oversee his
father’s USAC Silver Crown team as well.
Additionally, he has a waiver from his father to race himself if the right
opportunity presents itself.
“I’m not quite ready to hang up my helmet, which my Dad understands,” said Foyt,
who has been a test driver for Evernham Motorsports the last several years. Foyt
spent four years competing in the NASCAR Busch and Nextel Cup Series before
moving back to Texas in October, 2005.
In the meantime, Foyt is focusing his energy on making his father’s celebratory
