Qualifying Report: Bommarito Automotive Group 500

MADISON, Ill. (June 6, 2026) -- Under hot and sunny track conditions at World Wide Technology Raceway, Santino Ferrucci qualified the No. 14 Homes For Our Troops Chevrolet and was the fastest of the ten cars that had preceded him. However, cloud cover moved in and temperatures cooled, and he slid to 15th on the grid by the time qualifying ended.

"I'm really happy with the car," Ferrucci said after posting a two-lap average speed of 170.988mph. "I think the Homes For Our Troops Chevrolet is really quick. Obviously, it's a bit of a bummer with the weather right now, because it's just getting cooler and cooler, and so everybody's just gonna go faster and faster. Nothing we can do about that."

Ferrucci was optimistic about his chances in tomorrow night's race, stating, "I've been off the back here before and finished in the top five. This race, it's so long, it's kind of chaotic, you can definitely pass, and there's multiple lanes, but having a good qualifying, is just helpful for when we go to Road America too, for pit box selection. It's got more consequences moving forward than it does tomorrow."

Caio Collet, who qualified even earlier in the session than Ferrucci, posted an average speed of 170.104mph in the No. 4 Combitrans Amazonia Chevrolet. He will start 20th.

"I think the car was much better than what I expected to be, to be honest, and I didn't extract really the potential of it," Collet explained, adding, "Did a small mistake in my first lap. The second lap was decent, but I missed quite a bit in the first lap. But I think we have a good solid baseline."

Like Ferrucci, Collet is confident that he can move forward in the race under the lights which will be his first experience racing an Indy car at night.

"Last year (some of) the guys had a really good race starting from the back," Collet said. "Santino, last year he had a rough qualifying and finished in the top five. So here it's a race that if you have a good car and a good clean strategy, you can really move forward, and hopefully we can improve a couple of things in the car {in final practice] and move forward tomorrow.”

Alex Palou won the pole with a blistering average of 174.353mph to win the NTT P1 award by more than a mile an hour over outside pole sitter David Malukas. Rounding out the top five were: Kyle Kirkwood, Felix Rosenqvist and Scott McLaughlin.

Teams will have two more sessions on track before tomorrow. The first is the highline practice where groups of cars run the high line around the 1.25-mile egg-shaped oval to work in the outside groove. That session is followed by an hour long final practice as teams work on race setups and full tank runs in night time conditions.

The Bommarito Automotive Group 500 will be broadcast on FOX tomorrow evening starting at 9 p.m. ET.

Alessandro de Tullio continues to impress with his qualifying runs.

In the INDY NXT by Firestone qualifying session, Alessandro de Tullio qualified outside pole at a two-lap average speed of 162.363mph. His teammate Nicholas Monteiro will start 19th after posting a two-lap average speed of 159.060mph.
