#Race4Houston Raises Over $28,000

WALLER, Texas—The #Race4Houston campaign, created to help Texans impacted by Hurricane Harvey last summer, raised $28,150.50 which was sent to Houston’s Mayor Sylvester Turner. The mayor sent the check to the Greater Houston Community Foundation which is now administering the donations to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

The response by race fans was swift as they bought t-shirts at Watkins Glen International and Sonoma Raceway as well as online at IndyCar.com. The Verizon IndyCar Series merchandise gurus worked with AJ Foyt Racing to design the logo and implement production of the grey t-shirts featuring the unique logo. The concept to completion took less than 10 days to have product available for sale over Labor Day weekend at Watkins Glen International.

IndyCar’s public relations team worked to get the word out to race fans and IndyCar teams carried the logo on their cars at the Watkins Glen event to spread awareness.

A.J. and Larry Foyt and their team were gratified by the response from their competitors and from the race fans all over the country. “I’ve been very fortunate in my racing career and I’m glad that through racing, we were able to help the people of Houston who suffered so much during Hurricane Harvey,” A.J. Foyt said. “It was a real team effort and I’m not talking about just my race team but also the entire IndyCar Series and all of the race fans and friends who contributed.”

Approximately 1280 t-shirts were sold.

Mayor Turner sent the team a Thank You letter:

Perhaps Team President Larry Foyt summed it up best, saying, "IndyCar racing has always been more than just a sport. It's a community, an extended family if you will. We are thankful to the fans, the league, and the competitors who all contributed to help us give something back to our local community."
