DETROIT (May 30, 2026) -- Caio Collet and Santino Ferrucci were both caught out by red flags in their qualifying sessions for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix on the twisting and bumpy streets of Detroit Saturday afternoon.

Collet, who will start 19th in the No. 4 Combitrans Amazonia Chevrolet tomorrow, was sitting seventh when the red flag came out for fellow rookie Mick Schumacher's contact with the barrier with just over two minutes to go in the group one session. The session was restarted after the track was cleared but Collet could not improve on his time. However a couple other drivers did, bumping him down to tenth in his group. Only the top six advance so Collet will start inside row 10.

"Since yesterday, been struggling a little bit with a couple of issues," said Collet. "Qualifying with the red flag was a little bit tougher there, but I made a mistake on my (optimal) lap before that, and afterwards, I could not get back the tire grip that I had. Without the mistake, I think we're maybe looking to be a couple of rows better. For tomorrow, we need just to figure out a couple of things, also from my side, and make a good race car for tomorrow."

When asked if the pain in his side from his accident in the closing laps of the Indy 500 was affecting him with the track's very bumpy streets, he quickly replied, "No, not at all. I think it's just a bit sore when I jump in and out of the car, but I think with the adrenaline and obviously the medical team, they are just giving me a couple of things to deal with it. I'm not feeling anything when I'm in the Combitrans car. It's just when I jump out, it's a little bit sore and hurts a bit."

Ferrucci would have benefitted if the red flag for his session for David Malukas' crash had not stopped the qualifying so late in the session. Ferrucci had been on a strong lap that would have transferred him into the Fast 12 but he didn't cross the finish line before the red flag came out so it did not count. He will start 22nd in the No. 14 Homes For Our Troops Chevrolet.

"We had a fantastic car," Ferrucci said. "I don't think we could have had any worse luck on the timing of the red (flag), we were in (the Fast 12) on the SMT. All I had to do is get through those two corners, and the Homes for our Troops Chevy was getting better and better. I didn't even have it down in my mind that I couldn't continue to improve, and yeah, just a shame. It's racing. Last year we came from 21st to second, so guess we're gonna have to do it again."

Santino explains qualifying to Sgt. Mike Gower, this weekend's Homes For Our Troops honored Veteran.

Alex Palou won his third straight pole and fourth of the season pipping Will Power who will start second, his best start of the season since switching teams. Rounding out the Firestone Fast Six were: Scott McLaughlin, Scott Dixon, Christian Lundgaard and Kyle Kirkwood.

The 100-lap race around the nine-turn, 1.645-mile street circuit will be broadcast at 12:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
