A.J.Foyt, Sheraton Thompson Special, 1964 Indianapolis 500

May 30, 1964, A.J. Foyt captured his second Indianapolis 500 victory. He started fifth, dominated the race and led 146 laps. He averaged 147.350 mph smashing the track record by over four miles per hour. When Foyt crossed the finish line, it would be the last time a front-engine roadster would ever lead a lap at the 'Brickyard.'

In 1964, Foyt won 10 of the 13 National Championship races, winning every race he finished. His finest tribute came from Parnelli Jones at the '64 Indy 500 victory dinner when Jones introduced Foyt as "the greatest race car driver who ever lived."

A.J. Foyt on his way to being the first ever driver in history to win the Indianapolis 500 mile race four times.
After winning previously in 1961, 1964, and 1967, A.J. raced the Gilmore racing Coyote chassis car of his and his father's own construction, with the Foyt motor engineered in his own shop.
After qualifying 4th, A.J. went on to win the race with an average speed of 161.331 mph, securing his place alongside the true legends of American motor racing.


Officially licensed product of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

A.J.Foyt was driving a Ford powered Coyote at the 1967 Indianapolis 500 and, in the latter stages of the race was following leader Parnelli Jones' STP Turbine until, with just three laps to go, Jones' transmission bearing broke and A.J. swept into the lead. As he was about to take the checkered flag a multi-car crash blocked his way. Changing down to second gear he managed to make his way through the flaming fuel, dense smoke and flying wheels to record his third Indy 500 victory and was the only car to complete all 200 laps, and at a record speed of 151.207mph.
With a record breaking 4 Indy 500 victories and 35 consecutive Indy 500 race starts, 'Supertex' has become an all time Indianapolis legend.
