First Test with ABC Supply Chevrolets Brings Smiles

SEBRING, Fla. Jan. 26, 2017 – After two days of testing the ABC Supply Chevrolets with drivers Carlos Muñoz and Conor Daly, the AJ Foyt Racing team was smiling.

“For this to be our first test, I’m really pleased,” said Larry Foyt, Team President. “There is so much to learn that we could have been gathering information there for a week, but we have to do the best we can within the private testing rules [three days per team per season].

“For all of the new pieces in our program, everything came together quickly, and we were clicking off testing items and got many things accomplished. It was a shame that Carlos had an incident because everything was going really well. He was enjoying driving the car and learning about the Chevy engine.”

Muñoz had a couple of off track excursions in the no. 14 ABC Supply Chevrolet. The incident on Wednesday afternoon damaged the right side suspension and curtailed his session for the day. However, the team was able to gather a lot of valuable information in spite of the incident.

Daly, who will be driving the No. 88 Starworks PC entry this weekend in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, did a great job in his return to Foyt’s team.

“Conor was a work horse and hardly got out of the car,” Foyt said. “The 4 team did an awesome job of working though changes and making lots of runs. We have lots to sort through before the Phoenix Open Test but everyone left this first outing quite enthused about everything we got done.”

The test was the first opportunity for Foyt and Team Director George Klotz to see how the team that was assembled during the off-season worked together and both were pleased with the results. The Indianapolis-based No. 4 team will be settling in their new shop this week.

“I’m very happy with the test because it was a new learning curve for all of us and we learned a lot,” team owner A.J. Foyt said afterwards. “I was very happy with the cars, and the engines performed wonderful, and the drivers did too, so I’m happy.”

The team will be busy prepping for the Verizon IndyCar Series Open Test at Phoenix International Raceway which takes place Feb. 10-11. The test is open to the public on Saturday, Feb. 11 with an all driver autograph session scheduled from 4:30-5:30 that day. Admission and parking is free. Gates open at noon. The on track sessions run from 1 to 4pm and 6 to 9pm.
